Nuclear energy: Delivering Solutions
The European Nuclear Assembly (ENA) is an international biannual conference organised by FORATOM. It provides a perfect platform for politicians, industry experts, the media and stakeholder representatives from around the world to discuss the latest political, economic and environmental developments in the nuclear field and to focus on the vital issues driving the debate on the future of nuclear energy.
Nuclear energy is delivering solutions. Its key security of supply, climate change and competitiveness credentials have led governments across Europe to review or phase out their nuclear phase-out policies, to extend the long-term operation of their nuclear power plants or to invest in nuclear new build to help ensure future energy demand is met. The momentum behind the nuclear revival has been sustained.
From an EU policy perspective 2009 saw significant progress: the Laperrouze Report, which emphasised the need for a nuclear investment roadmap, showed how a majority in the European Parliament see nuclear as a key player in the EU energy mix. The new Safety Directive provided a binding legal framework governing safety at nuclear facilities. These developments, coupled with the ongoing work of the European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF), show clearly that nuclear energy is here to stay as a core component of EU energy policy. 2010 promises further progress.
The ENA 2010 agenda reflects the importance of the nuclear debate with high-level speakers focusing on key issues like security of supply, Europe’s low-carbon economy, waste management, public acceptance and investing in nuclear.
Who should attend ENA 2010?
MEPs, officials from the European Institutions; Permanent Representations from the Member States; journalists; the CEOs and management of energy companies; intergovernmental organisations, NGOs, economists and financial experts etc.
